Whether you want to get involved with conservative politics in the state or are just trying to learn more, this will be the place for you.   Florida: Purple State Politics Florida is a center-right state where conservatives have dominated state-level politics since the late 1990s. Jeb Bush became governor in 1999, starting a string of GOP control of the governors mansion through at least 2019. Rick Scott is the current Republican Governor. As of 2013, Republicans control more than 60% of the seats in both the state house and state senate. The story is quite a bit different when it comes to national politics. Presidential elections are almost always close. Florida gave two close victories to both George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and to Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Since 1981, the US Senate seats have been split between 1 Republican and 1 Democrat in all but four years. Democrats usually run as moderates in the state, while Republicans run moderate to very conservative in statewide elections. Democrats and liberals tend to populate the heavy population zones including the southeastern part of the state near Miami and Palm Beach County, Tampa in the northwest, and Orlando in the middle of the state. Republicans and conservatives do well in the many low-population and rural inland counties, the gulf coast region on the southwest, and throughout the military-friendly Florida panhandle. Duval County (Jacksonville) is one of the few large cities in the state where Republicans also do well, relatively speaking. Snowbirds and retirees have a major impact on the political scene in Florida. A large portion of these residents often flock from liberal northeastern states and bring their votes with them. Key Laws of Interest Florida is a very strong 2nd amendment state with strong gun rights. The Stand Your Ground law enables Floridians to defend themselves without the threat of a lawsuit. Florida also has a three strikes law which has severe punishments for repeat felons. Florida is one of just six states to have no state income tax while also having relatively low state sales taxes. Food purchases are non-taxed. In regards to abortion, parental notification is a requirement and an ultrasound is required prior to an abortion being performed and the provider must offer to let the patient see the ultrasound. Same-sex marriage is banned in Florida, with 62% of voters having approved a constitutional ban in 2008. Literature Review The paper relates to three sets of literature: the capital structure, the location effect, and the peer effect. In the classical capital structure context, Fischer, Heinkel, and Zech-ner (1989) and Leland (1994; 1998), Hovakimian, Opler, and Titman (2001) show that firms periodically readjusts capital structures toward a target ratio. Lemmon, Roberts, Zender (2008) show that the majority of changes in leverage ratio are caused â€Å"by an unobserved time-invariant effect that generates surprisingly stable capital structures.† Lemmon et al. (2008) show that this factor is present before the IPO. They conclude, â€Å"variation in capital structures is primarily determined by factors that remain stable for long periods of time.† Recently, there has been a growing interest in studying the effect of geography on firm characteristics and financial decisions. Studies have shown that firm location affects its financing and strategic decisions. In this paper, focusing on U.S. firms, I show that headquarter location has a significant effect on capital structure. Several studies show that geographical factor has a significant effect on equity investing. Coval and Moskowitz (1999), and Grinblatt and Keloharju (2001) show that investors favor equity investments in local firms. Coval and Moskowitz (2001) â€Å"apply a geographic lens to mutual fund performance,† and find that mutual funds gain abnormal returns by investing in nearby firms. This is not only due to the nature of terrorism itself, but also to the deliberately narrow focus of the US government and the ways it chose to address this threat. INTRODUCTION The Louvre is one of Paris’ most beautiful and historic monuments. It’s one of the world’s largest museums and is a central landmark of Paris itself. The museum today contains nearly 35,000 works of art and is held within an area of 60,600 square meters. With nearly 10,000 visitors a year, the Louvre has become the world’s most visited museum. Out of all the wonderful sights in Paris it was the Louvre’s grand and architectural presence that captured my attention most. The contrast between old and new jumps out at you, but at the same time they work well together. The striking glass pyramid sits seamlessly in the Cour Napolà ©on, which is the main court of the Louvre Palace, whilst being wrapped by the old palace itself. Since†¦show more content†¦It wasn’t until 1983 that the French President Franà §ois Mitterrand proposed the ‘Grand Louvre’ plan that was to renovate the building and relocate the Finance Ministry, allowing the Louvre to have displays throughout the entire building. It was a Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei, known as I.M. Pei, who was chosen for the project, becoming the first foreign architect to work on the Louvre. His vision involved a divisive and controversial glass pyramid that would stand over the new entrance in the main court, the Cour Napolà ©on. The pyramid and it’s underground lobby were inaugurated on 15 October 1988; finally reaching completion in 1989. At the start Pei went to Paris to assess the location, finally agreeing that the reconstruction was possible, but at the same time he felt that it was a necessity for the future of the museum. Not only did this new design occupy the Cour Napolà ©on within the midst of the three main wings, but also an alteration of the interior. Pei proposed a central underground entrance that would connect the three main buildings. The centrepiece of the design is the glass and steel pyramid that has now become the focal point of the Louvre itself. The structure was mirrored by another inverted pyramid that’s main purpose was to reflect sunlight into the room. Section 313, MA, states that until and unless a registered migration agent provides a statement of services, consisting of the details of services to be provided by the agent and the costs that he will incur while providing such services, no client is liable to pay any fees to the Migration agent. Therefore, in this case, Wood Engineering must be provided with the details of all the services required for the successful application of work skilled temporary visa subclass 457. Wood Engineering would have the right to recover the amount, if any, paid by them in relation to Visa Services, in case they are not provided with the search statement.
